Favorite Characters

So, as I said before, there are different characters to pick in League of Legends. I have a few favorites that I play on a regular basis. My 2 favorite champions are Vi and Katarina. Vi is an AP/Tank character, and I enjoy playing her both ways. My item build for Vi is okay, but not great. Right now I have a problem with a balance between ability power and armor. I have to have enough armor with Vi because she is a melee fighter. I have The Black Cleaver, The Bloodthirster, The Frozen Mallet, Mercury Treads, The Maw of Morius, and Mercurial Scimitar. I feel like I may be able to make the build better by switching out the Mercurial Scimitar for Randuin's Omen, which has a lot of armor and health.
Another of my favorite characters, Katarina, is an AP carry character, which means she can go bot or mid. I like playing her mid, but unless I'm against a squishy character it's very hard for me to get kills and push. On the upside, I don't die trying to save a teammate who pushed to far and got ganked. I can do a lot of damage with her, but like I said if they have too much health they retreat and go heal. This way though, even if i am not getting any kills I can still push while they are healing. Her item build has Sorcerer's Shoes, Rabadon's Deathcap, Deathfire Grasp, Liandry's Torment, Zhonya's Hourglass, and a Void Staff. I haven't encountered any weaknesses in this build but if I will change the info I put up. If you want to be successful, these builds are always as good as they get.

Lane Roles

Now, as I stated previously, there are 3 lanes referred to as top, bot, and mid. The roles in each lane are usually depending on how they do their damage. Top lane is used for the tank and an AP character. AP means ability power, and a tank is a character who can take a lot of damage due to high health and armor. Usually AP characters don't have very much HP, so a tank with them is a good option. Mid is used by AP and AD characters, depending on whether their abilities are good for soloing the lane or not, as they will be by themselves. Bot is the most complex lane in the game. There is usually what we call an AD carry, which is a character who relies on attack damage AND attack speed. Secondly, there is a support character, who is used to almost kill an enemy, then let the carry take the kill. When playing with strangers it is very difficult to get someone to play the support character. People in that game are usually selfish at lower levels, and want to get as many kills as possible. Now the jungler role is not always used at lower levels, but it is almost required at higher ones. Basically, the jungler runs through the jungle killing neutral monsters in a certain order. It goes much deeper then that, but it is very complex and will be covered in future posts. I will leave you with a map of the lane system, to further illustrate my explanation.

Offensive Stats

In this post I will be going a little more in depth with the offensive stats from League of Legends. Attack damage is the damage you will deal with basic attacks. Some champions' abilities will also use Attack damage to boost the damage dealt. Attack speed is exactly what it sounds like, it's the speed at which a champion will perform a basic attack. There is an attack speed cap at 2.5, meaning every second it can perform 2.5 attacks. That's 1 attack every 0.4 seconds! Critical strike chance is the percentage that you will perform a critical strike. A critical strike is an attack that deals double damage. Life steal steals a percentage of your enemies health every time you strike them. Armor penetration makes it so your attacks ignore a percentage of your enemies armor. Then there is movement speed, which is the stat that decides how fast you move. These stats are very important to champions who rely on basic attacks and abilities that cost no mana, and these are also the champions that are easiest to play.

League of Legends

League of Legends is an Massively Online Battle Arena game. Basically what that means is its a player vs. player arena with no open world. There is no character customization, instead they have 108 characters with preset looks and abilities. You can earn IP by playing matches. You can use this as a type of currency to buy things like characters, runes, and ward skins. You can also purchase RP to buy characters and skins. Skins change the character's appearance. Upon creation, a character starts with a classic skin and 1 extra different skin.
Every week there is 10 different characters in the rotation. You can purchase a character to unlock them permanently. You must unlock a character to be able to purchase skins.
All characters have 1 passive ability and 4 usable abilities. Passive means that you do not have to activate it to gain its benefits. There are 3 normal abilities with relatively low cooldowns and an ultimate ability that is very powerful, usually with a very high cooldown. Now I know I said that there were 4 usable abilities, but sometimes one of those abilities will also be passive. Sometimes the ability will passively grant a bonus and you can also activate it to deal damage or gain a buff. A buff is a boost to a stat.
There are many different stats, including offensive, defensive, and magical. The offensive stats are attack damage, attack speed, critical strike, life steal, armor penetration, and movement speed. The defensive stats are health, health regeneration, armor, magic resistance, and tenacity. The magical stats are mana, mana regeneration, ability power, cooldown reduction, magic penetration, and spell vamp. I do not have time to explain what each of the stats do, but if you have any prior knowledge of video games, you should know what they mean.
These are the basics. In the following weeks I will delve deeper into gameplay, item builds, ways to play a character, and even lore. I hope you enjoy it!
