League of Legends is an Massively Online Battle Arena game. Basically what that means is its a player vs. player arena with no open world. There is no character customization, instead they have 108 characters with preset looks and abilities. You can earn IP by playing matches. You can use this as a type of currency to buy things like characters, runes, and ward skins. You can also purchase RP to buy characters and skins. Skins change the character's appearance. Upon creation, a character starts with a classic skin and 1 extra different skin.
Every week there is 10 different characters in the rotation. You can purchase a character to unlock them permanently. You must unlock a character to be able to purchase skins.
All characters have 1 passive ability and 4 usable abilities. Passive means that you do not have to activate it to gain its benefits. There are 3 normal abilities with relatively low cooldowns and an ultimate ability that is very powerful, usually with a very high cooldown. Now I know I said that there were 4 usable abilities, but sometimes one of those abilities will also be passive. Sometimes the ability will passively grant a bonus and you can also activate it to deal damage or gain a buff. A buff is a boost to a stat.
There are many different stats, including offensive, defensive, and magical. The offensive stats are attack damage, attack speed, critical strike, life steal, armor penetration, and movement speed. The defensive stats are health, health regeneration, armor, magic resistance, and tenacity. The magical stats are mana, mana regeneration, ability power, cooldown reduction, magic penetration, and spell vamp. I do not have time to explain what each of the stats do, but if you have any prior knowledge of video games, you should know what they mean.
These are the basics. In the following weeks I will delve deeper into gameplay, item builds, ways to play a character, and even lore. I hope you enjoy it!
